Laura K. Sayers’ Vibrant Postage Stamps Celebrate the Beauty of Everyday Moments

Laura K. Sayers’ Vibrant Postage Stamps Celebrate the Beauty of Everyday Moments

From recognizable scenes around her home in Scotland to delicately rendered snapshots of places she visits, Laura K. Sayers’ meticulously crafted postage stamps nod to connections from afar. The artist, who also illustrates children’s books and is commissioned for special projects like greeting cards, incorporates itty-bitty cuts of colorful paper into tiny tableaux that can fit in the palm of a hand.

Much of the work seen here is currently on view solo in Sayers’ solo exhibition of miniatures titled The Wee Small Hours at N. atelier. An array of everyday scenes is chronicled in a format we typically associate with significant events and remembrance, documenting fleeting moments like little treasures. Some of her recent pieces are inspired by the Finnish landscape that emerged during the artist’s stay at the Fiskars Artist-in-Residence program, organized by Onoma.

Camila Mendes Latest Goddess Dress Has Leg Slit as High as the Heavens

As the international Master of The Universe press tour wraps up, it’s clear Camila Mendes had her red carpet outfits down to a science. Or perhaps a religion. From Los Angeles to Berlin, the star steadily rotated single-toned, subtly constructed looks with gleaming metallic accents and just the right hint of “goddess.” That formula continued with her latest neutral ensemble, elevated with a vintage touch by Donna Karan New York.

For the fantasy film’s last screening in New York City, Mendes stepped out in a smooth, chocolate-brown silk dress from Karan’s fall 2004 collection. The dynamic, yet simple style featured a sleeveless bodice with a plunging neckline, clasped by a sculptural piece of gleaming gold metal. A soaring thigh-high slit and effortlessly draped train brought the style a breezy, sultry finish.

Similarly to Mendes’ previous stops on the press tour, stylist Molly Dickson kept her accessories minimal to allow the garment’s colors and silhouette to take center stage. On this occasion, the star’s Karan dress was coordinated with a pair of metallic gold open-toed sandals with subtle crossed toe straps. Several matching rings and thick, rounded earrings added a soft shine that matched her outfit’s metallic accents while perfectly complementing its artisanal hardware.

During the film’s various events, Dickson’s outfitted the actor in dresses and separates with subtle draping, body-conscious silhouettes, and single-toned colors from labels including Cong Tri, Elisabetta Franchi, and Anna October. Mendes’ outing in archival Karan followed a trip down the red carpet in vintage Roberto Cavalli leopard-print dress for its Berlin premiere. However, she isn’t the only star with a go-to outfit formula. Mendes’ co-star Nicholas Galitzine has consistently worn dark, double-breasted suits for each of the movie’s events, as well. After all, why fix what already works?

Though Masters of the Universe’s red carpets have officially wrapped, its cast is expected to step out for social media-based interviews and late night talk show appearances before the film’s June 5 release. It’s likely Mendes and Galitzine will both turn to their tried-and-true outfit formulas for the remainder of their press stops—but, as Mendes’ vintage looks have proven, there’s always room for a subtle surprise.

Penelope Cruz's Does a Daring Leg Slit the Chanel Way

Ask anyone: there’s almost no detail as daring on the red carpet than a dynamic slit. The sultry accent has stopped traffic on every red carpetfrom the Met Gala to the Oscars—after all, who could forget Angelina Jolie’s viral thigh-high slit from 2012? The latest star to step out with the bold detail is Penelope Cruz, who brought high-slit drama to this year’s Cannes Film Festival with a little help from Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel.

Today, Cruz wore a one-shouldered black gown for the festival’s screening of La Bola Negra. The gathered design prominently featured a thigh-high slit, ideal for spotlighting the actor’s sharp black pumps. Her look was complete with a flowing back sash, as well as dramatically flared, futuristic raffia flowers—one atop her thigh, the other on her right shoulder—that have become one of Blazy’s signature at Chanel.

Cruz’s look was the latest Chanel style to grace the Cannes red carpet this year. Since the festival began, numerous stars have continued to wear a wide range of designs from Blazy’s various viral collections. Newly announced brand ambassador Sandra Hüller stepped out in a bold, feather-covered hooded dress last week. Meanwhile, longtime global Chanel house ambassador Kristen Stewart broke multiple festival dress codes in a sheer skirt set and crocheted gown—complete with matching Chanel sneakers—within 24 hours. If there’s one designer who’s commanding the red carpet at Cannes this year, it certainly appears to be Blazy.

The black dress that Cruz wore on the festival’s red carpet also proved that the smallest details can make a big impact within the most subtle designs. Through its emphatic slit and surrealist florals, her outfit was elevated from a minimalist silhouette to a bold fashion statement—one that was literally blooming with character.
