‘The Boys’ Star Erin Moriarty Thought She Was “Dying” While Filming Final Season Amid Graves Disease Symptoms: “Physical Hell”

Prime Video has had more than its fair share of big TV shows return this year already, but nothing has had as much anticipation behind it as the fifth and final season of The Boys. The show first arrived back in the summer of 2019, and it was such an unknown at the time, that Prime Video debuted all episodes of the series at once — it didn’t waste any time becoming one of the hottest binges of the year. Over the course of five seasons in seven years — an impressive turnaround schedule for any show with this level of budget — The Boys became one of Prime Video’s flagship properties. There were high expectations heading into The Boys Season 5, but it didn’t take fans long to begin picking apart the show’s final outing, which will undoubtedly taint how it’s remembered in the long run.

Some shows deserve more than one viewing — or even a second, third, or fourth rewatch. These days, it’s easier than ever to consume television on a whim, whether at home, on the go, or across multiple screens. With streaming services offering hundreds of shows on demand, it’s effortless to switch from one series to another in seconds, no longer tied to traditional broadcast schedules or weekly viewing habits.

When The Boyspremiered in 2019, it quickly distinguished itself from the saturated space of superhero adaptations. Instead of celebrating heroes as symbols of hope and justice, the show exposed what might happen if these superpowered individuals were reckless, corrupt, narcissistic, and caught within the machine of celebrity life. Its blend of dark comedy, graphic violence, sharp social satire, and surprisingly emotional character work helped turn it into one of the most influential superhero shows of the modern era.

The hit superhero series, The Boys, finally came to its big conclusion and shocked the world. Was it the perfect ending? No, but it did what it needed to and wrapped up almost everyone's stories in a cohesive manner. There's no doubt, though, that there will be a space in many peoples' hearts now made empty by the absence of The Boys.

It’s been a roller-coaster of a year for fans of The Boys, who spent the first few months of 2026 on pins and needles waiting for the premiere of the final season. The Boys Season 5 began streaming back in April, and knowing it was the final season, fans went in with high expectations. Opinions vary on the final season of The Boys, but critics agree that the show stuck the landing — The Boys Season 5 holds a Certified Fresh 93% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. The audience-driven Popcornmeter is a bit of a different story, coming to rest at a Rotten 50%. This is partially due to review bombing by those unhappy with Homelander’s (Antony Starr) ending, though it was much higher in the days leading up to the series finale.
