Both Marvel and DC have plenty of popular superheroes, but each brand has a few that stand head and shoulders above the rest. For Marvel, some of its biggest heroes include Spider-Man and Wolverine, and, more recently, Iron Man. Over at DC, the biggest superhero by a wide margin is Batman, who is confirmed to return in a new sequel movie next year. James Gunn is also developing a new Batman movie set to be directed by Andy Muschietti (The Flash), but it’s been years since it was announced and no casting or production timeline has been revealed. Batman is such a popular character that even his villains and sidekicks can be considered some of DC’s most popular superheroes — HBO released a full Penguin spin-off starring Colin Farrell that swept the Emmys last year with nine wins.

As Rick and Morty continues broadcasting its 9th Season, another Adult Swim show has also made it to the streaming charts. However, this title did not perform well since its release, receiving poor reviews from fans and critics alike. Despite the poor reception, it made a streaming comeback.

2026 has been a strong year for Taylor Sheridan, but fans of the Western writer have come to expect this by now. Sheridan kicked things off in 2026 with the Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals, which follows Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) now that he’s left ranch life behind to become a U.S. Marshal. After the debut of Marshals came The Madison, which features big-time talent like Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer. Sheridan recently brought fans back to the Yellowstone universe for the latest spin-off, Dutton Ranch, which follows Rip (played by Cole Hauser) and Beth (played by Kelly Reilly) after the events of the series finale. Sheridan has had plenty going on so far this year, but things are only going to get busier for the Yellowstone creator as we inch closer to the end of the year.

Netflix has, for years, become the home of the comfort watch. Those older sitcoms you stick on in the background while you're occupying yourself before you go to bed, the shows you watched as a kid that you want to relive, or even more modern ones you've only recently discovered. Now it's clear to everyone that the main reason we all enjoy a sitcom is because they're easy to binge, safe spaces where very little goes wrong, there's resolution at the end of every 22 minutes, and they tend to be those discoveries people stumble into and then immediately recommend to everyone they know. Sadly, one of the very best examples of this, and one of the most comforting shows out there, is about to lose its place in the "continue watching" lineup.

The spies of movies and TV often have little bearing on the real thing; very few actual intelligence agents, if any, have ever had their memories wiped, climbed the Burj Khalifa, or escaped from danger via jetpack. However, the head of British intelligence agency MI5, Sir Ken McCallum, does have a favorite spy show, and it'll be returning for a new season this fall.

Apple TV is entering a new phase — one marked by its continued production of high-quality shows that have attracted acclaim and awards. But this new phase leans into what is currently sustaining many streaming services and networks: franchises. The streamer has expressed interest in expanding the universes of some of its biggest shows, with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Severance, and Ted Lasso in consideration. However, one of the earliest contenders for a spin-off is the streamer's oldest sci-fi series, and that plan recently materialized.

Last year, NCIS fans got their wishes for a continuation of Tiva when Paramount+ released the procedural spin-off NCIS: Tony & Ziva. The series was a treat, picking up with Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo's fan-favorite former NCIS agents after they left for Paris to start a life together along with their daughter, Tali (Isla Gie). Although their on-again, off-again romance had fallen through, it offered some closure to the beloved couple's life together, showing how they always find their way back to each other amid a high-stakes journey to clear their names and figure out who is after them. Alas, their unconventional new chapter was cut a bit short after the streamer decided to cancel it after one season.

George R.R. Martin has more than earned his status as one of the most legendary fantasy authors of all time — his writings are the inspiration behind the biggest TV franchise in the world with Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones aired its second spin-off earlier this year with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the third season of House of the Dragon is coming in just a few weeks. Martin may be the writer of the (infamously unfinished) Song of Ice and Fire series, but he’s also involved in other non-Game of Thrones projects, both as a writer and producer. Last year, Martin’s short story, In the Lost Lands, was adapted into a fantasy film starring Dave Bautista and Milla Jovovich, but it bombed at the box office with only $6 million against a $55 million budget.

As one 97%‑rated series ends, Apple TV is enjoying the success of another. The new show couldn't be more different from the first, even though both have identical scores on the aggregator website and are fundamentally comedies. The first of these two new shows is Margo's Got Money Troubles, and together with the second, they're proving that Apple's slate of excellent content isn't limited to the sci-fi genre. Over the years, Apple has become somewhat synonymous with shows such as Severance, Foundation, Silo, and more recently, Pluribus. The streak continued on May 29 with Star City, a companion piece to the streamer's first-ever sci-fi series, For All Mankind.

Even HBO is not immune to bad shows or seasons declining in quality. The network is easily one of the most celebrated for its storytelling, with bold and imaginative series like The Wire, The Sopranos, and Game of Thrones. The aforementioned shows are hailed as some of the best HBO has ever produced, but they also attracted criticism with seasons varying in quality or an ending that was unsatisfactory. Still, the network has managed to release shows that have maintained their quality throughout, and one of them is a 2018 drama series that played all its cards right.

Following today's sad news that iconic British actor Anthony Stewart Head had passed away at the age of 72, a number of co-stars have been paying glowing tribute to the star. Head, best known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, died earlier today, and for millions, he will always be Rupert Giles, Buffy’s Watcher, mentor and father figure.
