Despite a largely negative critical response, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War is once again the number one movie on Prime Video this week. A highly anticipated film sequel to the Jack Ryan series, the movie sees John Krasinski return to his role as the titular CIA operative, and the film follows Jack Ryan as he comes out of retirement to help deal with an international plot. Krasinski also co-wrote the film with Aaron Rabin, with Andrew Bernstein directing, and the movie has proven quite popular with streaming audiences. But in case that’s not quite what you’re in the mood for, there are still plenty more options to choose from on the platform. Just days ago, reports emerged that the reboot of one of the most respected sci-fi franchises of all time had been scrapped only a few months after receiving a series order, bringing the project to an abrupt end before production could fully get underway. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time Amazon has pulled the plug on a major project early in its development, and it likely won't be the last.

2026 is a huge year for Spider-Man fans. Not only is Spider-Man: Brand New Day hitting theaters next month, but a brand-new series has launched on streaming platforms and is already a hit. This new Spider-Man show steers away from the traditional story, following a different kind of friendly neighborhood superhero. One that has more in common with detectives like Bosch than it does other Marvel superheroes.

Prime Video is in line for one of the biggest years in the streamer’s history in 2026 after releasing new seasons of some of its biggest properties. The first show that comes to mind is The Boys, which just wrapped up with a divisive finale that still has fans watching and debating close to a month later. Prime Video also aired a new season of its critically lauded adult animated show, Invincible, and confirmed on the day of the Season 4 finale that more episodes are coming next year. However, the biggest Prime Video show returning before the end of this year is Reacher, the hit action series starring the gargantuan Alan Ritchson. There is such little doubt that Reacher Season 4 is going to be a massive hit that the show has already been picked up for Season 5 before Season 4 even has a release date.

Despite a seemingly endless stream of think pieces, the superhero genre continues to thrive on screens big and small. 2026 is the best proof of this: not only will theaters see an onslaught of capes and cowls with Supergirl, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday, but Prime Video has been delivering plenty of subversive superhero television with The Boysand Invincible. Last week, the streamer dropped its newest comic book series, and it's proven to be one of the best adaptations that Prime Video's tackled in recent years.

Fans of Lee Child's Reachernovels are perhaps the luckiest fandom on the planet — besides fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe, who seem to get news of another project seemingly every week now — and are living the dream with Prime Video. The streaming service with the intimidating Alan Ritchson leading the charge has delivered a three-part series (soon to be four) that does not seem inclined to slow down anytime soon. Streaming services are always on the lookout for their next big action series and Prime Video has already landed theirs with Reacher.

Prime Video's relationship to its flagship fantasy commissions has proved somewhat inconsistent over the past several years. Last summer, the streamer cancelled The Wheel of Time, citing budgetary concerns for the acclaimed adaptation's tragically early demise. On the other hand, recent statements indicate their plans to continue pouring support into an even costlier epic, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. When it comes to promising genre originals with smaller financial requirements, the streamer has mostly, and thankfully, adopted the latter approach.

Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to later this year, particularly the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. After occupying the role of Iron Man in the MCU for over 10 years, Downey Jr. will shift to the villain side of the aisle to play Doctor Doom in the film — there could be Tony Stark crumbs coming, though, considering the multiversal implications. Marvel viewers were treated to a street-level project to start the year with the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which led directly into the Jon Bernthal-led Punisher special, One Last Kill. Bernthal will also reprise his role as Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo MCU Spider-Man film coming to theaters on July 31. The movie co-stars Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo.
