30 Rock went off the air in 2013, and Timothée Chalamet didn’t begin to make his ascent to stardom until four years later with Call Me By Your Name. Which is a shame. We could easily imagine another timeline in which Chalamet has a three-episode 30 Rock arc playing a shifty cougar-obsessed Lothario who tries to seduce Jenna Maroney out of her OffBrandHeelz.com money. We’ll have to settle for Chalamet’s surprising linkup with Tina Fey at last night’s New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden instead. Chalamet, of course, was accompanied by girlfriend Kylie Jenner. Fey, meanwhile, was having an actual 30 Rock reunion with co-star Tracy Morgan.

Chalamet’s Knicks obsession is well-documented. So, seating arrangements aside, it was little surprise that he showed up courtside to cheer on his team during the first round of the NBA playoffs. He made his allegiance clear with a Knicks cap that he wore with an otherwise all-black, oversized outfit. Jenner dressed in contrast, in an all-white, tight-in-all-the-right-places outfit. She paired a tank with bedazzled jeans. Chalamet wore his trademark Timberland boots, while Jenner opted for simple flip-flops. Opposites attract.

XNY/Star Max/GC Images/Getty Images

The Knicks always attract VIP fans, and over the years this has led to some surprising celebrity seat pairings. Who could forget the time eternal cool girl Chloë Sevigny was seated next to Jersey Shore star Pauly D?

Last night’s lineup is primed for similar infamy. To Chalamet and Jenner’s right, Fey (wearing a blazer and orange Nike sneakers) took in the game with Morgan (Fey is also an executive producer on Morgan’s new sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins). To their left was Ben Stiller and his wife Christine Taylor. A further seat down, you could find Edie Falco.

Sarah Stier/Getty Images Sport/Getty Images

All that celebrity goodwill brought the Knicks some good luck. They trounced the Atlanta Hawks 126-97, taking a 3-2 lead in the first-round series.

Though we can only dream of the idea of a Chalamet x Fey project (or at least all the Call Me By Your Name jokes 30 Rock could have made), perhaps we’re wishing for the wrong collaboration. Kylie recently earned raves for her surprise comedy turn in Charli xcx’s The Moment, and has said she’d like to explore her comedic acting chops more. Fey once cast former LA party girl Nicole Richie on her show Good News. Maybe she could do similar wonders for Jenner’s career? She’s worked with her family before, too. Kim Kardashian actually once had her own 30 Rock cameo, back in 2013.

Nicole Kidman may not be the most regular of Met Gala attendees (she’s only gone six times...so far). And while that may seem like a lot, for someone who has been in the public eye as long as Kidman, it’s pretty sparse. That being said, when the actor does attend, she does so with style and authority. On two of the occasions she’s walked the Met carpet, she not only cohosted, but was dressed by her fellow cohosts, Karl Lagerfeld and Tom Ford (the latter, during his Gucci era). This year, Kidman is once again taking on co-hosting duty, meaning a return to the steps is imminent. Will she wear Balenciaga for the third time in a row? Or, surprise us all and go in a completely different direction? While we wait and see, let’s take a look back at Kidman’s Met Gala sartorial history.

Kidman also wore Balenciaga to the 2024 event. Her dress—designed by Demna—was inspired by one created by Cristobal Balenciaga himself for the house’s spring 1951 collection. The original was made famous by supermodel Dorian Leigh in a Harper’s Bazaar image by Richard Avedon. This new version took 800 hours of hand embroidery and the application of 150 meters of silk organza to create. “The gown creates a natural full circle moment of time—it’s a celebration of Richard’s work that will live on, but also, an acknowledgment of Balenciaga’s artistic vision that continues to seamlessly blend the illusion of past, present, and future,” Kidman told Vogue.

2023: “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”

Prior to 2023, Kidman hadn’t shown up to the Met Gala in several years. But she RSVP’d “Yes” to the year that celebrated Karl Lagerfeld. As anyone with a television in the early ‘00s remembers, Kidman was the face of Chanel No. 5 and starred in a lavish commercial for the fragrance.

Kidman certainly remembered. She re-wore one of the dresses from that very commercial.

The night also gave her a chance to reunite with Baz Luhrmann who not only directed that Chanel ad, but also Moulin Rouge.

In 2016, Nicole Kidman wore an Alexander McQueen gown that was quite literally celestial. Creative director Sarah Burton customized the dress based on a sheer version that was shown during the brand’s fall 2016 runway show.

The gown’s elaborate cape added to the drama without resembling a costume. The look drew comparisons to the classic Art Deco-era work of the Russian-French artist and designer Erté.

The year was also notable as it marked the first year Kidman attended the Met Gala with a date from her personal romantic life. She brought then-husband Keith Urban, who let his wife take all the attention by opting for a classic white-tie tuxedo.

2005: “The House of Chanel”

Karl Lagerfeld famously did not consent to a retrospective of his own career during his lifetime, but he did cohost the Met Gala alongside Kidman in 2005 for an exhibition and gala dedicated to the history of the House of Chanel. Kidman, of course, was then the face of the brand’s iconic fragrance, Chanel No. 5. And naturally, she showed up in Chanel haute couture.

Photo by Fairchild Archive/Penske Media via Getty Images

The gown came with a few hidden tricks. It had a dramatic leg slit and was lined in silver. If you appreciate no other detail, please take note of the fact that the silver lining matches Lagerfeld’s fingerless gloves.

Kidman truly leaned into proper hosting duties. Here, she, Lagerfeld, and Wintour greet Michael Kors and his date for the evening, Jessica Simpson.

2003: “Goddess: The Classical Mode”

Kidman was not only one of the earliest A-listers to spot Tom Ford’s talent at Gucci, but she cohosted the 2003 event alongside him. That year was a tribute to “Goddesses,” and Kidman certainly dressed like one in a gown that was a perfect exemplification of Ford’s knack for sophisticated sex appeal. Kidman was all covered up, but the draping of the dress recalled bosom-baring classical sculptures.

Evan Agostini /Getty Images

Long before the “Jason Derulo has fallen down the stairs at the Met Gala” meme existed, Adrian Brody actually did take a tumble at the Met. Don’t worry, everything was fine—but the moment did provide a nice look at the back of Kidman’s gown.

Photo by Fairchild Archive/Penske Media via Getty Images

Once again, she was on her best hosting manors alongside Wintour, Ford, and Brody. For the record, though they stuck close together that night, Kidman and Brody never dated. However, they had both just won their Oscars a few months before.

Kidman was in good company that night. Ford also dressed another goddess, Diana Ross.

Madonna’s 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' Wardrobe Was a Masterclass in Pop Star Branding and Style

Madonna isn’t just a pop star. She’s the author of her own image. One of pop culture’s most potent visual storytellers, to say Madonna knows how to leave a lasting impression would be an understatement. That’s why the look she curated to promote the original Confessions on a Dance Floor album in 2005 remains so memorable.

Whether promoting a film, rolling out an album, or launching a makeup line, these days, entertainers run through racks of clothes, hoping to garner attention with method dressing, archival pulls, or pointed references. In contrast, Madonna’s Confessions looks were more like a pop star’s answer to a capsule wardrobe. Anchored by a strawberry blonde feathered blowout and a cropped Frida Giannini-era Gucci leather jacket worn in a few different shades, Madonna often wore the same outfits across the album’s artwork, music videos, performances, and promotional appearances.

She’d occasionally swap them out for variations on a theme. Like the album’s music, they all harkened back to the sweat-filled dance floors of the Disco and 1980s underground club eras. She mostly stuck to a strict color palette of vibrant pinks, deep purples, and shimmering blues. Referencing her own days as a dance student, she sourced vintage dancewear—including tights, tops, leotards, legwarmers, and sequined belts—and mixed it with her designer duds. It was amped up, certainly, but it was still a study in personal style.

That’s why, to promote the hotly anticipated sequel album Confessions II, Madonna’s favorite reference is simply herself. She’s already been spotted in some of the same clothes and boots. That iconic Gucci bomber has even made a few appearances, including at Coachella where she joined Sabrina Carpenter. As the world prepares to confess its sins on the dance floor once again, take a look back at Madonna’s original Confessions clothing.

Evan Agostini/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

In the fall of 2005, Madonna stopped by MTV's Total Request Live to premiere the video for lead single “Hung Up” in a red version of the Gucci bomber jacket that would appear again and again throughout the era.

Later, Madonna kicked off Confessions promo in earnest by going on a spree of surprise performances, including stops at The Roxy and era-defining hipster party The Misshapes. She wore a shimmering blue wrap dress for the occasion.

A variation of perhaps the most iconic Confessions look (this one worn for the MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon) was centered around the Resort 2006 leather bomber jacket and almost-as-iconic Lara Bohinc sunglasses.

Later in the evening, Madonna switched the purple out for a vintage red-and-gold party dress.

A few days later, she performed on the German program "Wetten, dass..?" in a silver version of the jacket.

In the middle of the album rollout, Madonna took her daughter Lourdes to the world premiere of Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire in London. Her jacket was premiere-appropriate, but the purple Saint Laurent boots and Roberto Cavalli culottes would be interpolated back into her performance wardrobe.

A few weeks after storming NYC’s club scene, she made a surprise appearance at London’s famed spot G-A-Y. She wore a custom pink sequined version of the Gucci bomber, more Lara Bohinc glasses, and Saint Laurent boots.

F. Micelotta/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

She performed again in London later that week, mixing the purple jacket with the same pants and boots she wore to the Harry Potter premiere.

In the midst of Confessions duty, she also released the documentary I'm Going to Tell You a Secret. She attended the London premiere in a black wrap dress with sequined trim.

Over in Tokyo, she put a mauve spin on her Confessions signatures.

JIL Studio/FilmMagic/Getty Images

Later, she performed in a deep blue version of the look.

F. Micelotta/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

She performed at the 2006 Grammys alongside The Gorillaz in a lilac corset and stoned Dolce and Gabbana leotard.

Kevin Winter/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

On the Grammys red carpet, she wore a bejeweled little black dress from Alexander McQueen.

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic/Getty Images

A Madonna era isn’t quite complete without an appearance from Versace. She wore a pink version of a dress from the brand’s spring 2006 collection to that year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic/Getty Images

Later, she performed in Coachella’s dance tent in a dark blue bomber that echoed previous performance uniforms from that era.

F. Micelotta/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Like many performances during Confessions, Madonna wound up in a leotard and a feather boa. Please note that in the background, dancer Daniel “Cloud” Camps (her lead dancer throughout the era) also got a chance to wear a version of the Gucci jacket.

F. Micelotta/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Madonna’s arena tours are almost eras unto themselves. For the Confessions Tour, she enlisted longtime collaborator Jean Paul Gaultier to design the costumes (though many of the looks riffed on her already established album wardrobe). For instance: the purple Saint Laurent boots once again made an appearance.

Dave Hogan/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

This equestrian outfit from the tour referenced a horseback riding injury Madonna suffered months before the album’s rollout. She also explored the equestrian theme in a 2006 W cover story shot by Steven Klein.

KMazur/WireImage/Getty Images

This purple-striped catsuit directly echoed the album’s wardrobe and referenced stage outfits worn by Abba in the 1970s.

KMazur/WireImage/Getty Images

The concept of a sequined bomber also reappeared, though this one was designed by Gaultier—and featured a feathered collar.

After growing up in a town whose defining distinction was a zipper factory, Sharon Stone moved to New York City in the late 1970s. At 19 years old, she signed with Ford Models and lived around the corner from CBGB. “When you’re from a small town, you either have a sense of moral authority or you die,” says Stone. “You have to lean on your sense of self, not your sense of environment.” After pivoting to acting in the ’80s, Stone experienced true fame with 1990’s Total Recall. Her costar Arnold Schwarzenegger gave her a crash course in dealing with the press: “If they ask you about your personal life and your sex life, you’re allowed to ask them about their sex life.” Although she identifies as an introvert, Stone has often hit the global social circuit to promote causes close to her heart. She’s a longtime advocate for those with HIV/AIDS and is the cofounder of Planet Hope, a charity that helps underprivileged children. All the while, Hollywood has never quit calling. Several of her films—notably Basic Instinct—have elicited controversy, so it’s only fitting for her to have joined the third season of HBO’s Euphoria, which premiered April 12. “I don’t think I’ve ever had that much genuine joy,” she says of filming for the series. “It’s a really lovely period in my life.”

Stone was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Her father “grew up in a barn stall,” and, as a child, her mother worked as a maid. “My parents got married at 16 and 17. I was this wide-eyed, happy baby, and my mother was just like, What the hell is happening here?” says Stone. Above: Stone with her mother. “You can see she’s just not into being a mom, poor thing.”

“Clearly, my mother had cut my hair,” says Stone of this photo from her third birthday party. Industrial Meadville was a far cry from the glitzy Hollywood she’d one day inhabit. “Kids drove their tractors to school in the morning after they finished their chores. My town still has parking spots for buggies for the Amish people.”

In the early 1980s, Stone turned to acting and moved to Los Angeles. Shortly after her move, the actor George Hamilton handpicked her to appear alongside him in a photo shoot set in Hawaii. They became friends, and he introduced her around Hollywood. “I met this very tony group of very wealthy, very high-end people and was invited to these fancy dinner parties.” He also brought her to the Golden Globes in 1982.

Stone’s first speaking role was in Wes Craven’s Deadly Blessing (1981). On set, she met Mimi Craven (left), who became her red carpet accomplice. Here, they’re pictured at the 1993 MTV Movie & TV Awards. “We were best friends for a very, very long time. She saved my life,” says Stone. When Stone suffered a stroke in 2001, doctors initially thought she was faking her symptoms. Craven intervened and demanded they take more tests.

In 1990, Stone traveled to the Cannes Film Festival to drum up press for Total Recall a few weeks before its release. At that point, she had a string of B movies to her credit and didn’t receive a star’s welcome. “The airline lost my luggage. I was wearing the same three pieces of clothing in 14 different ways, and people were kind of side-eyeing me. I was very shy, and I didn’t know exactly what I was doing.” Luckily, she ran into the famously friendly talent agent Shep Gordon. “He put me in his car, and he took me to two or three dress shops.”

At the 1991 opening of the first Planet Hollywood in New York City, Stone ended up onstage singing with Bruce Willis (center), one of the restaurant’s co-owners. The pair had met in very ’80s fashion: filming a wine cooler commercial. “Bruce had just done Moonlighting, and he got a job doing a commercial for Seagram’s wine coolers. I was cast as the girl, and we became friends.”

Stone’s starring role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1992 film Basic Instinct cemented her status as an icon. A definitive entry in the erotic-thriller canon, the movie was the subject of controversy thanks to its infamous interrogation scene. Three weeks after its release, Stone was booked to host Saturday Night Live and parodied the interrogation. “The musical guest was Pearl Jam. I had such a crush on them.”

Stone’s high-wire turn in Martin Scorsese’s Casino earned her both a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination. It’s also, arguably, Stone’s most fashion-forward on-screen role. “Rita Ryack, an astonishing costume designer, made this Courrèges outfit. She copied it exactly from that period, right down to the logo,” says Stone, pictured here with her costar Robert De Niro, of the film’s early-1980s wardrobe. The one piece Stone took from the set: the Emilio Pucci top her character died in.

Stone walked her first runway in 1992, when Thierry Mugler asked her to be in an AIDS benefit show held in Los Angeles. “I wore three wigs, one on top of the other,” says Stone. In 2025, she reunited with the Mugler brand to front their campaign for an archive-inspired capsule collection, which featured two dozen reinterpretations of Mugler’s vintage designs.

The cover of Rolling Stone’s 1992 “Hot Issue” cemented Stone as an emblem of 1990s Hollywood. Stone unwittingly designed the cover outfit herself: “I walked in, and [photographer Albert Watson] handed me a T-shirt and an X-Acto knife. He said, ‘Cut this up,’ and I did it. Then he went, ‘Now put it on.’ I was like, ‘Well, okay.’ ”

In 1993, Stone closed Valentino’s spring 1994 ready-to-wear show. Long before relationships between designers and Hollywood stars were de rigueur, Stone and Valentino Garavani had formed a strong fashion bond. In 1995, she wore a custom Valentino dress to the Cannes Film Festival and had the man himself on her arm.

For 1995’s The Quick and the Dead, Stone secured the lead role and helped find her partner in crime. She was intent on casting Leonardo DiCaprio, who was just starting his career. “Leo had something that every other boy [auditioning] did not—a kind of unique vulnerability.” To get DiCaprio the job, Stone paid his salary herself. Off set, they became friends. “My sister and I took him go-kart racing for his 17th birthday. He was trying out flirting on me, just to see how it would go. Oh my God, it was hilarious. Now he’s the global heartthrob.”

Stone emceed many starry concerts thrown for veterans at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, in California. Of all the performers, Stone hit it off best with James Brown. “He said, ‘I want you to sing backup with the girls.’ And I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me!’” remembers Stone. “I did it a few times, which is even crazier.” Above: She’s pictured joining Brown during an encore at his birthday concert in Augusta, Georgia, in 1994. Stone assumed she’d be singing backup again but was surprised with a duet of “I Got You (I Feel Good).” “I managed to shake my moneymaker and get through it.”

While some A-listers stayed far away from the madcap MTV Movie & TV Awards, Stone, a two-time winner, was a frequent guest. In 1996, Stone stepped out on Rodeo Drive for an event benefitting Inner-City Arts. There, she had a moment with the Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo. “He came over to my table and said, ‘I’m in love with you.’ I was being a wiseass, so I said, ‘Sure you are. If you’re in love with me, you’d sing to me right now.’ So he just started singing opera to me at the top of his lungs at my table. The entire room was like, What is going on?”

Being friends with Donatella Versace “is like a warm bath,” says Stone. The actor’s 2004 divorce from journalist Phil Bronstein was a topic of tabloid intrigue, and Versace offered her a safe haven. “She invited me to Gianni’s house in Lake Como, Italy. She asked our friend Prince Albert [of Monaco] to send his butler to take care of me. Down by the lake, there’s this beautiful semicircle seat around an eternal flame that has a baby deer over it, which is Gianni’s grave. I hiked down every day and sat in there and meditated with Gianni.”

Stone has campaigned tirelessly for HIV/AIDS-related causes throughout her career, but this meeting with Magic Johnson (above left) at a 1996 amfAR benefit had extra meaning: The Los Angeles Lakers legend was the unlikely inspiration for her performance in Basic Instinct. “When Magic was playing, I went every chance I got because I was obsessed with his no-look pass, ” she said. “I decided that my character understood the no-look pass, and that was how she functioned. I based her movements on how Johnson ran his team without ever looking at them.”

In 2000, Stone starred opposite Ellen DeGeneres in If These Walls Could Talk 2, directed by Anne Heche, DeGeneres’s partner at the time. Stone and Heche (far left) joined Cher, who had starred in the original film, to pick up an award at the 2000 Women in Film Honors. “That I got to spend the day with Cher was really a highlight of my life. She’s probably one of the coolest women who ever walked the planet.”

Stone has three adopted sons: Roan, Laird, and Quinn. “I made this very brave decision to raise three boys, knowing that no one would want to date me, because men are innately selfish. It’s the greatest thing I ever chose to do,” says Stone, who’s pictured with her boys. “When they were little, they would ask, ‘What kind of family are we?’ I would say, ‘We’re a happy family.’ When they started first grade and the other kids all had dads, they said, ‘They have dads.’ I would say, ‘Wait till the third grade.’ And by the third grade, half of their friends did not have dads. And I was like, ‘See, we’re a happy family.’ ”

Stone picked up painting during the pandemic and hasn’t stopped. Of the image above, she says, “I’m an obsessive swimmer. I got out of the pool, and I saw something on the painting that I wanted to fix. My friend took that picture, and I was like, ‘Well, now the whole world can see that I have no ass.’ ” She’s since staged solo shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Connecticut, and Berlin.

Stone’s role on Euphoria pairs her with Maude Apatow, who plays Lexi Howard, the quiet sister of Cassie (played by Sydney Sweeney). Maude “is very special, very smart, and super professional,” says Stone. “I’ve told her that she is my secret daughter-in-law. I’ve claimed her.” Stone also got a chance to share a set with fellow Euphoria newcomer Homer Gere, the son of her Intersection costar Richard Gere. “I really loved that because Richard and I have been friends for 100 years.”

America does not have a royal family, but if we did, you’d have to imagine those people would dress a bit preppy. That undergrad-informed Ivy League aesthetic has been the East Coast elite’s go-to style for generations now. So when Elle Fanning stepped out today in New York in an outfit that mashed together a fairytale princess skirt with a preppy polo shirt, we could only think one thing: Prep Princess!

While promoting her upcoming Apple TV limited series, Margo's Got Money Troubles, Fanning was spotted outside ABC Studios in midtown Manhattan in a delightfully mismatched look from August Barron. Her top was a bright take on the classic polo shirt done in a creamy light yellow. The rest of the outfit, however, was pure fantasy. Fanning’s puffy tulle skirt featured two oversize bows along the waistline. A bow in her hair echoed the motif, while shiny powder blue heels matched accordingly. The result looked as if a little girl’s Pretty Pretty Princess dress-up set had accidentally gotten mixed up with the laundry her older brother dropped off during a visit home from Cornell.

XNY/Star Max/GC Images/Getty Images

The aesthetic contrast was no mistake. Currently beloved by a roster of It girls across the globe, August Barron (FKA All-in Studios) are experts at juxtaposing storybook fantasy with very real nostalgia. Fanning’s outfit came from the brand’s recent fall 2026 collection, which was titled “Bedtime Story.” Inspired by Alice in Wonderland and other Disney heroines, the clothes pair princess dressing with elements from nostalgic American youth archetypes like the prep, the prom queen, and the varsity athlete.

The result echoes Gen Z’s penchant for mismatched styling: taking pieces from various sources, eras, and styles and putting them together. You could easily imagine channeling the vibe of Fanning’s look the next time you step into a thrift store.

Yet, worn by Fanning out on the streets of New York City on a spring day, the combination of an unexpectedly precious skirt with an everyday unisex top reminded us of a fashion landmark loved by older generations: the tutu skirt and tank top from Sex and the City. Who needs royalty when we have Carrie Bradshaw?

Sometimes you don’t have to think too hard about method dressing. If you’re starring in a franchise called The Devil Wears Prada, why not just wear Prada? (All the better if it’s in a devilish shade of red.) That’s exactly what Meryl Streep did last night, at the South Korea premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in Seoul. Of course, the woman who plays the fierce editrix Miranda Priestly shouldn’t be wearing any old Prada. Her suit was custom, of course. The most interesting part of this red carpet storyline may be that Prada decided to take part at all.

A power suit fit for anyone hoping to lead an editorial meeting, Streep’s double-breasted red suit jacket featured an exaggerated collar that sat slightly above her shoulders. Her wide-leg, slightly flared pants matched perfectly, and an unexpected brown belt synched with the silhouette.

Although Streep’s suit was custom-made, it appears to takes its cues from deep within the Prada archives. Supermodel Lara Stone stomped down Prada’s fall 2009 runway in a similar demon-red outfit (but hers was a skirt suit). Fall 2009 was a particularly austere season for Prada, with lots of sturdy suits made of stiff fabrics. Pops of red were just about the only color shown on the runway amid a collection otherwise dominated by blacks and various shades of brown. Backstage, designer Miuccia Prada told Style.com at the time that it was all “about a need for feminine empowerment.”

Although The Devil Wears Prada is largely understood to be a stylized fictionalization of Vogue magazine and its global editorial director Anna Wintour, the films do bear another famed moniker: Miuccia’s surname. Mrs. Prada has said very little about that fact over the years. She told an Italian newspaper back in 2015 that she was originally afraid because she thought the original novel was “awful,” but she ultimately concluded that, “the film, on the other hand, was fun.”

Wintour has shed a little more light on Miuccia’s reaction. “Many years ago, the Prada name and I were thrown together in the title of a book and then a movie,” Wintour told the audience at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards in 2016. “For a while, it seemed that that association was the only flattering thing about the enterprise, and Miuccia and I never discussed it. Finally, at one of our lunches, she leaned across the table and she said, ‘Anna, that book, it’s good for both of us.’ And the subject has never come up again.”

While the fashion world famously held the original film at a distance, everyone, including Wintour and Prada, are showing their support this time around. The Vogue editor is even featured on the cover of the most recent issue of her magazine with Streep. Both are wearing Prada. As Miuccia would say, it’s all just “fun.”

You’ve heard the old style advice to “treat leopard print like a neutral,” but lately fashion has been more interested in letting animal prints take a walk on the wild side. Consider the sparkling dress Hunter Schafer wore last night to Euphoria’s season 3 premiere. It amped animal print all the way up, leaving the impression that one of Siegfried and Roy’s tigers had given up the magic show to become a Las Vegas showgirl instead.

Part of Roberto Cavalli’s spring 2026 collection, the dress featured a motif of silver sequined tiger stripes against a gold background. The sequins gradually disperse down the dress, revealing a sheer skirt beneath. For an extra hint of danger, the gown also had sheer paneling in the back. A dress like that doesn’t need much jewelry, so Schafer kept her accessories minimal. If she was wearing any earrings at all, they were covered by her casual beach waves. Her simple brown stiletto pumps were really the only accessorizing needed.

The house of Cavalli is known for taking wild cat prints to fashion extremes, but the notion is quite on trend at the moment. The fashion dictate has been to wear animal prints in a way that is anything but basic. The current prints aren’t faithful reproductions of actual wildlife—rather, the look is pushed to fantastical extremes, like they’re the skin of some lab experiment on the island of Dr. Moreau. Earlier this year, Kendall Jenner was spotted in a beaded tiger-stripe Chanel dress that would have stopped traffic even if it wasn’t done in traffic-cone orange. A few weeks later, Anya Taylor-Joy took to the New York City streets in a leopard-print skirt with spots that gradually mutated into furry fringe. Dua Lipa took Gucci’s sculptural tiger-stripe faux-fur coat for a whirl, and even Meryl Streep has had some fun in a big, bold leopard print. Other updates on classic animal prints have dominated runways lately, popping up everywhere from Celine to Dior and, of course, Cavalli.

Treating animal prints as a neutral is still solid advice, but if you’ve ever felt the urge to let them have center stage, take a cue from Schafer. Now is the time to let them out of the cage.

Inside the 70th Annual Rose Ball, Where Royals Went to Space with Burlesque Dancers, Robots, and Lots of Couture

At least six princesses from four different royal families, two robot-costumed performing artists in stilts, a handful of dancers from Paris’s iconic Crazy Horse burlesque, 78 artists, 250 lamps, 950 meters of mirrored table clothes, and an untold number of couture dresses came together for one very iconic night in the singular micro-country of Monaco this Saturday. It was the 70th annual Rose Ball, which always tends to be one of the world’s more exciting royal events, but this year truly launched it into orbit.

Later this year, a breed of roses named after Princess Grace will go to space as part of science experiment. Consider the royal once known as Grace Kelly is still Monaco’s most iconic royal and the founder of the Rose Ball, the story inspired the event’s creative director Christian Louboutin and Grace’s daughter Princess Caroline to give this year’s celebration a space travel theme. The annual event is the main source of fundraising for the Princess Grace Foundation, which supports pediatric health and cultural initiatives.

For many though, the night started down on earth—a particularly posh part of earth, but earth none the less. Guests used the famed lobby of the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo as their launchpad, sipping champagne and eying other’s couture. They then arrived at the Salle des Étoiles to find that Louboutin had redecorated its interiors to resemble something directly out of Star Wars. Video paneling had been installed along the walls of the entrance way, and dancers dressed in silver space cadet uniforms handed out bottles of Louboutin’s Rose Fétiche perfume upon entry.

Once all the guests were seated at their mirrored banquet tables, a voice simulated a countdown to begin the event. The evening’s entertainment was structured around the concept of visiting different color-coded planets. On one, burlesque dancers from the famed Crazy Horse Paris put on a sensual performance, at another stop, members of the Paris-based Kalinka Ballet put on a traditional Russian character dance to a Kraftwerk song, and at another the Berlin-based Dule Compania pranced on stilts.

For those whose idea of an adventure involves more couture finers and less celestial orbit, the Rose Ball still delivered.

Japan’s Princess Akiko of Mikasa was the surprise guest of honor at the event. The princess, a cousin of Emperor Naruhito makes few and far between public appearances, but last year she became the first princess by birth to become the head of one of the branches of Japan’s royal family. She was visiting the country to celebrate twenty years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Monaco.

She was joined by boyfriend Ben Sylvester Strautmann and Princess Dorothée D'Arenberg, of the German-Belgian House of Arenberg. The latter was wearing Jonathan Anderson’s Dior.

A return back to Earth would be put off until the next morning. Upon the conclusion of dinner, singer Leee John and the band Imagine had guests filling the dance floor before handing it off to DJ Josh Quinton who spun into the late night.
