JOHOR BAHRU, June 1 β€” The Johor state legislative assembly has been dissolved, paving the way for the state’s upcoming election.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution after obtaining the consent of Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim earlier today.

He said the move would allow the people of Johor to elect a new state government and secure a mandate to continue the state’s development agenda.

β€œThe Election Commission will ensure the necessary steps to determine the dates for nomination, early voting and polling for the 16th Johor state election,” he said in a brief special media conference held at the Johor Menteri Besar’s official residence in Saujana here today.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and state Umno chief, was accompanied by the state legislative assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

In attendance was also the incumbent ruling assemblyman during the announcement.

The Johor state legislative assembly, which has 56 seats, is scheduled to end its term on April 21 next year.Β

Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 12 seats with DAP obtaining 10 seats, while PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) won one seat each.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) won three seats, while the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) obtained one seat.

Japan Post’s mail carriers are getting some cool upgrades, but packages might be a little late

5 June 2026 at 17:30

Intense summer heat means new safety rules and ice-cold drinks.

Summer in Japan is popular for many things, from festivals and fireworks to delicious and refreshing treats, but there is also another undeniable aspect to the season: it gets pretty hot. In fact, in recent times with consistently high temperatures, the Japan Meteorological Agency officially introduced a new term to refer to days that reach over 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), meaning that working outside this summer is not likely to be an easy feat. So, Japan Post has announced an update on how they will be looking to keep their hard-working staff safe as they strive to deliver mail in a timely manner.

The Ministry of the Environment utilizes a heat index called WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) to issue safety warnings, which will be referenced by Japan Post’s new policy to determine their course of action. Under this policy, if a β€œHeatstroke Special Alert” is issued (when the index is predicted to hit 35 degrees Celsius [95 degrees Fahrenheit]), all outdoor deliveries and collections by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and pushcart will be temporarily suspended to protect workers. Additionally, on standard β€œHeatstroke Alert” days (with the index at 33 or above) or when the temperatures soar past 40 degrees Celsius, local postmasters can shift the delivery windows to completely avoid the hottest afternoon hours.

For the general public, this doesn’t have a significant impact, with general mail being a little slower to arrive. However, if you’ve selected a specific time slot for a package delivery on an intensely hot day, particularly around midday, there is a possibility that it might arrive later than scheduled on the same day or on a later date.

β–Ό Just show a little patience, instead of reaching for your phone to complain.

To make these gruelling outdoor shifts more comfortable, Japan Post is also allowing some extra gear to be worn, so you might see your local mail carriers rocking some cool sunglasses, neck coolers or fan-equipped vests.

Mail carriers are now officially encouraged to take quick hydration stops at convenience stores during their route, so don’t be surprised if you see a postal worker stopping in for a brief breather and grabbing a refreshing beverage.

This summer, if your mail happens to take a slightly more relaxed route on a blazing afternoon, don’t get too worked up. Sit back, crank up the air conditioning, and enjoy a cold drink, because your delivery is still safely on its way, being carried by a team that is also looking to stay cool and hydrated.

He said the victim was told to install an app called β€˜Kakaue’ and conduct cryptocurrency transactions.

β€œBetween March and September 2024, the victim carried out nine money transfers to six bank accounts belonging to companies provided by the suspect, involving a total of RM1,494,410.

β€œHowever, after all the transactions were completed, the victim was unable to withdraw or transfer the profits and capital shown in the application to his personal account,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. β€” Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 β€” Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, today presented a RM30,000 cheque contribution to Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK) here.

The donation was bestowed during Her Majesty's visit to the school as part of celebrations marking the official birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia.

Receiving Her Majesty on arrival were Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim.

Her Majesty was presented with a traditional dance performance by SBJK students and took the opportunity to view their handicrafts and engage with teachers and pupils.

Earlier, Wan Hashim said in his speech that SBJK, which began operations in 2013, was established as a Ministry of Education initiative to provide vulnerable children in the Chow Kit area with access to quality education, to break the cycle of poverty and improve their quality of life.

β€œSBJK currently has 16 teachers and 158 pupils, ranging from preschool to secondary level,” he said, adding that the school had recorded commendable results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, with consistent improvements in performance since 2014 and a 100 per cent pass rate between 2022 and 2025.

β€œFor the 2025 SPM examination, all 10 candidates from the school passed,” he said.

He said the school had also implemented the Zero Undocumented Students Programme (Zamrud) to ensure that all pupils possess valid identification documents.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the National Registration Department (JPN) through the Mekar Didik programme (designed to resolve documentation issues for students who lack essential identification), resulting in 61 pupils successfully obtaining their identification documents, he added. β€” Bernama

Gen Z has made headlines recently for turning to analog media and the slower pace of life synonymous with a pre-internet world. Alongside DVDs and print magazines, snail mail has also been on the rise as more people flock to spaces untouched by an algorithm or AI.

Even before the endless scroll subsumed much of our collective psyche, though, Gabriella Marcella was already combating digital fatigue through the design studio Risotto. Marcella founded Risotto in 2012, just after graduating from university, where she fell in love with risograph printing. She purchased her first machine secondhand and set up shop in her bedroom before moving to the Glue Factory, a former warehouse that still houses the studio along with other creatives.

By 2017, Marcella realized she wanted to share others’ work, too, and launched the Riso Club, which mails four postcards by four different artists to subscribers each month. β€œAs a print fanatic, I’m guilty of having a lot of prints that just sit in a cupboard, so I think having them as a useful object is really important,” the designer told It’s Nice That.

The project grew from there, and this month, Risotto is celebrating its 100th mailing with a large-scale retrospective that presents all 400 artworks together for the first time. On view from April 11 to 19 at the Glue Factory, the exhibition celebrates the sheer breadth of styles, aesthetics, and messages that have been translated into a risograph print. Whether the artist lives in Bogota, Damascus, Philadelphia, or Melbourne, their work is shipped to patrons around the world, allowing them to reach new audiences wherever they are. Marcella adds:

Having something like a subscription that allows you to consume creative media on a completely different cycle, as slow as snail mail is, is really refreshing. I also think having that physical object in front of you that you can interact with means you engage with the work more, you might read the caption at the back, find out who the artist is, and so on.

For those just joining the club or unable to see the exhibition in person, Risotto released a searchable digital atlas of all 400 works. Find more on the studio’s website and follow along on Instagram.
