2026 has been quite a year for Chris Pratt, who has already starred in one of the biggest sci-fi box office flops of the year with Mercy. Despite the star power of Pratt and his co-star, Rebecca Ferguson, the film failed to recoup its $60 million budget at the box office. It has since found redemption as one of the most popular titles in the world on Prime Video this year. Pratt then turned things around with the highly anticipated premiere of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel to his 2023 video game adaptation that grossed over $1.3 billion at the box office. The sequel was also on track to hit the $1 billion mark, and despite being added to VOD platforms like Prime Video somewhat early, the film still reached the colossal milestone just a few weeks ago.

When a TV series scores big in streaming, it's like there's a world of possibilities for what comes next. While a Season 2 renewal is the most common next step, a series can go on to inspire spin-off shows, prequels, sequels, and even one-time specials like The Bear's recent one-off prequel episode, "Gary." In the case of Prime Video's hit action thriller The Terminal List, which stars Chris Pratt and first premiered on July 1, 2022, the series' success not only scored a Season 2 renewal, but became the backbone of a whole franchise too.

The current box office landscape might be obsessed with horror — quite literally, in the case of Curry Barker's record-breaking new hit — but that doesn't mean there isn't room for other genres to reach success. The cozy Sheep Detectives continues to prove a popular hit for families, Masters of the Universeis a wonderfully nostalgic option for those seeking a summer blockbuster, and Antoine Fuqua’s musical biopic, Michael, edges closer to the $900 million mark.

Rebecca Ferguson is as booked and busy as any year she’s had in her career, already starring in two different projects so far in 2026. Ferguson has already starred in the critically acclaimed fantasy film, The Magic Faraway Tree, with Andrew Garfield. This summer, she’ll return to her role as Juliette Nichols in the beloved Apple TV sci-fi show, Silo, but even that isn’t her biggest sci-fi return on the agenda. She’ll briefly be seen as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Three, which is set to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, despite coming out on the same day as Avengers: Doomsday. After having a key role in the first two Dune films, which were directed by Denis Villeneuve, Ferguson has confirmed that she will have only one scene in the trilogy-capper.

The phenomenal success of director Curry Barker's Obsession seems to have fueled an online debate about whom the "real" villain of the movie is. The answer is obvious, of course, but people enjoy arguing with each other. A similar back-and-forth erupted, to a much lesser degree, exactly a decade ago. The discourse that time revolved around the same idea: consent, and the movie's questionable understanding of it. While Obsession makes it quite clear that the male protagonist is, in fact, evil, the 2016 movie wasn't as confident about labeling its own hero as the creep that he was. And that's primarily why certain members of the audience took offense to it. The movie in question was a massive box-office hit that cost $150 million to produce, but here's the kicker: it might eventually be overtaken by the tiny-budget Obsession.

Seven dangerous fellas, zero interest in subtlety, and pretty horses. That's this particular Western in a nutshell, because it does nothing quietly. It takes the bones of a classic story and then throws it into the body of a louder and bloodier action movie for modern times. It's dusty, yes, and violent as well, but it's the exact kind of movie that you'll be looking for when you need something to stream late at night on the weekend.
