KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 β€” Four women who lost their way while hiking at Bukit Tunggul in Dengkil were found safe and escorted out by firefighters today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said authorities received an emergency call at 10.13am reporting that the group had become disoriented during the hike.

A search and rescue operation was launched after firefighters managed to establish contact with the women, who were aged between 25 and 40.

β€œAll four women were located by firefighters and escorted to a safe area. They were not injured,” Ahmad Mukhlis said, when contacted by Harian Metro.

Firefighters from the Dengkil Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 10.50am and immediately began efforts to trace the hikers.

The operation, involving six personnel led by operations commander Muhamad Sakirin Selamat, concluded at 11.30am.

All four women were assessed at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.

Not your usual roadside hazard: Three-metre crocodile rescued from Banting drain

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 β€” Drivers stopping for fuel in Banting got more than they bargained for this morning β€” a crocodile longer than three metres was discovered lurking in a roadside drain near a petrol station in Sungai Manggis.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said firefighters were alerted to the unusual reptile rescue at 9.07am.

A team from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene, where they discovered the hefty crocodile trapped in the drain near the road.

β€œThe operations commander reported that there was a crocodile inside a drain near the roadside.

β€œFirefighters at the scene then carried out an operation to capture the reptile,” he said in a statement today.

The rescue operation involved eight firefighters and two fire engines. Fortunately, no one was injured during the encounter with the unexpected visitor.
