KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 β€” The close relationship between Malaysia and Japan is becoming increasingly important amid a more challenging and uncertain global environment, with both countries sharing common interests in strengthening energy security, economic resilience, technological development and regional stability, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a Facebook post yesterday, he said his first official visit to Japan, which began on Monday and lasted three days, marked an important milestone in further strengthening the special relationship between the two countries, since diplomatic ties were established in 1957.

Anwar said Malaysia and Japan had since continued to grow as close friends and trusted strategic partners.

β€œI subsequently led the Malaysian delegation in a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and members of the Japanese administration at the Kantei, which was the highlight of my official visit to Japan that concluded today.

β€œUpon my arrival at the Kantei, I was welcomed by Prime Minister Takaichi before being accorded a guard of honour, accompanied by the national anthems of Malaysia and Japan,” he said.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the visit was expected to open up broader opportunities for new areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The official visit was undertaken at the invitation of the Japanese government, and Anwar and his delegation departed for Malaysia yesterday. β€” Bernama

A rather unusual vehicle for commuting, but not for the American banker Hugh McDonald, who in the early 1930s has himself driven back and forth in this luxurious combination from his estate on Long Island to his office in New York.

The semi-trailer resembles an aeroplane and was built in accordance with aviation construction principles by the Curtiss Aeroplane Company in Florida. A lightweight, tubular metal frame is braced with wire cables. The Aerocar’s nose looks like a cockpit and is fitted with a compass, barometer, altimeter, speedometer and swivelling floodlights. The interior is furnished with lightweight wicker chairs and a desk. The galley features a refrigerator and there is also a lavatory with flushing toilet. The yacht was towed by a Graham-Paige Blue Streak fitted with a four-litre engine. A spare wheel was placed in the space normally occupied by the β€˜dickey seat’. The towing pin of the trailer fits in a socket in the hub and the tyre damped out the shocks while driving.
