Queen is one of the most beloved bands in rock history. The RIAA has certified 13 Queen singles as platinum (one million) and one as diamond (10 million units). The band has 54 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with eight songs having over a billion streams. They’re Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Winners, and have been the subject of a successful musical and biopic. So how on earth could Queen possibly deserve more recognition?

Following up on one of the greatest albums of all time is no easy feat. When Pink Floyd was tasked with doing just that, following up on Dark Side of the Moon, they were struggling. The record and its success had left the band jaded with the music industry. Eventually, the four-note riff of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” became the catalyst for the album, as it reminded bassist Roger Waters of the somber story of their former lead singer, Syd Barrett. As the song finally came together, what none of the band expected was an unexpected appearance by Barrett in their studio.

Beastie Boys’ two biggest hits, “No Sleep Till’ Brooklyn” and “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)” were given a hint of heavy metal flair with the help of an up-and-coming guitar legend, who just so happened to be within arm's reach. In 1986, while recording License to Ill, producer Rick Rubin felt that “No Sleep Till’ Brooklyn” needed a little extra intensity, beyond the guitar riff he had initially written. Luckily for him, just down the hall, he was working on producing another, soon-to-be legendary record, Reign in Blood, with thrash metal band Slayer where he was able to convince guitarist Kerry King to perform the part.
