Despite the rising water levels, City of Calgary officials said 70 per cent of the damage potential from the 2013 floods has been reduced due to investments in flood resilience.

The City of Calgary has a plan to reduce the water loss rate to 15 per cent by 2030, but it comes with a cost of $342 million over the next four years.

The project is one of several underway in Calgary aimed at revitalizing public spaces in the downtown core.

Alberta's transportation minister said the province is refinements to the alignment, but tunneling under the downtown core 'is not on the table.'
