Paramount stumbled onto a goldmine when they took a three-decade-old franchise and decided to put a new spin on it. Even after something of a PR disaster and a slight delay in getting it onto the screen, the wait was worth it, and it ended up becoming one of the safest bets in entertainment history.

In this day and age, a political thriller might seem as terrifying as a horror movie, especially one that, even more than 20 years later, seems as horrifyingly resonant now as it did at the time. Are we selling the movie to you? Great! Based on a 1962 old War classic, this 2004 remake ended up trading in the Iron Curtain paranoia for things like media control, and it worked really well. Interested? Good. Now you can stream it.

Although Netflix often receives praise for greenlighting many ambitious projects from the future of the industry, it can also receive outrage for ending the run of a popular project way before its time. The latest egregious decision from Netflix that is already causing widespread outrage is the cancellation of The Boroughs after its first season. Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, and executive produced by Stranger Things duo Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, the show opened to impressive figures, earning 5.6 million views in its first weekend, which grew to 9.5 million views in its first full week.

Although little is still known about it, it has now been confirmed that a second sequel to the '80s action blockbuster Top Gun— following the enormous, billion-dollar success of its cinema-saving sequel, Top Gun: Maverick— is now in the works. Currently in early development at Paramount, Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed that the idea for a third Top Gun movie has been developed, with plans to pen a script now underway. Sometime soon, we're likely to get another update on the journey to more Maverick.

Over the last few years, Alan Ritchson has quietly become one of the most popular action stars working in Hollywood today. This is largely due to his role in Reacher, the hit Prime Video show with three full seasons already out and a fourth on the way later this year. Prime Video is so sure that Reacher Season 4 is going to be a smash hit — Ritchson has already promised that it’s by far the best season of the show yet — that it’s been picked up for Season 5 before Season 4 even has a premiere date. Ritchson has also expanded into movies recently with hits like The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which was directed by Guy Ritchie. Earlier this year, Ritchson headlined the biggest Netflix sci-fi thriller of 2026, War Machine, which has scored over 125 million views.

Hit-maker Taylor Sheridan’s magnum opus, the Yellowstone universe, is now in the hands of Paramount. The studio will likely continue expanding the franchise for as long as possible, even after Sheridan departs to begin a new creative partnership with Universal. The signs are there already, with Spencer Hudnut receiving sole creator credit for the CBS spin-off Marshals. Hudnut has stressed that Sheridan was only a call away, and that he never wanted the show to come across as a cover version of Sheridan's writing. The production of the franchise’s latest installment, however, was not as smooth. While Chad Feehan is credited as the sole creator of Dutton Ranch, he left the project ahead of Season 1’s release following disagreements with Sheridan and lead cast members.

The past couple of years have been perfect for Channing Tatum fans. In 2024, Tatum dazzled in the Apple TV rom-com Fly Me to the Moon, alongside fellow MCU alum Scarlett Johansson, which was quickly followed by a surprise Deadpool & Wolverine appearance, and the eerie Blink Twice, which marked The Batman star Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut. In 2025, Tatum was praised for his voice work in the English dub of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, and released one of his most underrated movies ever in Roofman.

For the last several years, Taylor Sheridan has been the king of Paramount+. With a plethora of shows including Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Landman, Sheridan is the dominating force of the streamer. He has earned his spot as the face of Paramount+, but it's going to come to an end. This year, he began a movie deal with NBCUniversal, and in 2029, the deal will include television as well, officially ending his history-making run at Paramount. However, before the deal can even conclude, Sheridan's reign at the top has already come to an end thanks to a group of foul-mouthed kids. Created all the way back in 1997, South Park is still going strong and bigger than ever and the numbers prove it.
