2026 has been a wonderful year for horror so far. The likes of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Send Help, and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come all charmed audiences, but it wasn't until this past month that the genre truly stood out from the rest. This is thanks to the release of two fresh new horror projects, both from the minds of former YouTube creators. Focus Features' Obsession has become the talk of Hollywood, with director Curry Barker helping transform a sub-$1 million budget into almost $230 million worldwide, so far.

Netflix has been firing all cylinders this year with big blockbusters featuring A-list stars, and the first to hit the small screen in 2026 was The Rip. The Miami-set crime thriller stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and it came out only a few months before War Machine, the big-budget sci-fi epic starring Alan Ritchson. Following behind War Machine was Apex, the Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton-led blockbuster that scored over 100 million views during its first month on streaming. Netflix has also brought back a few of its biggest TV shows this year, including The Night Agent, the hit series starring Gabriel Basso (A House of Dynamite). Despite declining viewership in all three seasons of The Night Agent, Netflix picked up the show for Season 4, confirming that it will be the final season of the Shawn Ryan-written series.
