As fuel prices soar, some Canadian food suppliers are passing on the rising costs to their customers. In turn, this could mean that shoppers pay even more for their groceries. While Empire, which operates more than 1,600 retail stores under banners such as Sobeys, Safeway and IGA, has reportedly declined to pay the fuel surcharges, smaller independent grocers with less purchasing power are feeling the pressure.
