But there are some great underrated ones that are near perfect, yet no one seems to remember them. Releasing any mafia-related films in the wake of The Godfatherseemed like a fool's errand. In 1977, the landscape of science fiction changed forever with the release of Star Wars. But who said that was the end? In this universe, there's always room to expand, and expand they did. Devoted fans will always stay faithful to the original trilogy, but once Disney took hold of Star Wars, it opened up more storytelling opportunities and a sequel trilogy.

Marvel fans have already had a lot to be excited about so far in 2026. The MCU got the ball rolling with the launch of its first Disney+ series, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which just wrapped up with its finale last week. Jon Bernthal is here to continue the street-level MCU story this week, though, with the premiere of his highly anticipated Punisher special, One Last Kill, which will help bridge the gap between Daredevil: Born Again and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It was confirmed back in 2025 that Bernthal would make his feature debut as The Punisher in Spider-Man 4, and he was even included in the first trailer. It’s unclear if any of these street-level heroes will have a role in Avengers: Doomsday, which is heading to theaters around the world on December 18.

2026 has been a great year for Star Wars fans so far. Darth Maul emerged from the shadows with a new Disney+ series that has not only become the highest-rated project in Star Wars history, but it’s already been picked up for Season 2. Leading star Sam Witwer, who does the voice work for Darth Maul in the Disney+ series, has also confirmed that the wait for Season 2 won’t be too long. Star Wars will finally make its long-awaited return to the big screen for the first time since 2019 with The Mandalorian and Grogu. The live-action feature film will be a direct continuation of the Star Wars Disney+ series that launched back in 2019, along with the original release of the Disney+ platform. It’s unclear what else lies beyond The Mandalorian and Grogu for Star Wars in 2026.

One of the highest-grossing films of the early 2000s became a streaming hit over the weekend. As 2026 featured the success of many science fiction hits, like Project Hail Mary, Hoppers, Iron Lung, and, arguably,The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, it's no surprise that people began revisiting the genre to see what it was like in the past. Now, one of them managed to capture audiences once more, decades after its release.

Only two episodes remain in Season 3 of Elsbeth, and the CBS crime procedural is saving one of the best guests for next to last. This week's mystery, titled "Catch and Kill," will put Carrie Preston's fabulously dressed sleuth on the trail of a veteran gossip columnist named Betty Heymouth, who's met all the biggest stars and dealt in their secrets. However, she may have also killed to keep her own dirty laundry under lock and key. Collider can exclusively share a new sneak peek that sees Elsbeth trying to find out as she pays a visit to the writer's home. Making it all the more exciting is that Betty is played by a famous, Emmy-winning television legend who has rubbed elbows with plenty of celebrities herself — Tracey Ullman.

Some movies end with a sequel tease that feels like a promise. Others end with a sequel tease that spends the next two decades staring at fans from a distance and refusing to explain itself. This one very much belongs in the second category. Guy Ritchie’s crime caper arrived with an incredibly good cast, gangsters, stolen paintings, double-crosses, rock stars, Russian billionaires, and enough swagger to power a small London borough. It also closed by telling audiences that the story wasn’t over, and naturally, everyone is still waiting for that sequel, nearly two decades later.
