As many scholars will attest, we humans must either learn from the lessons of
history — or be doomed to repeat them. And right here, right now, in 2026, the
U.S. is certainly repeating a well-worn path: engaging in a conflict in the
Middle East that will undoubtedly leave thousands injured or killed, millions
displaced, and any semblance of who is 'right' and who is 'wrong' buried in the
chaos that follows.

And whenever a conflict wages in one of the world's most oil-rich regions, the
knock-on effects are immediate and severe: oil prices go up, entire economies are
threatened, and regardless of who started the war, or why, everyone on the planet
suffers.

As the U.S./Israeli war against Iran enters its third month, oil prices around
the world remain high — and more and more people are considering going electric.
But while history can teach us what not to repeat, it can also show us what to
expect. And while a ceasefire is currently in effect, there appears to be little
urgency — in some quarters, at least — to negotiate a lasting peace deal, return
the Strait of Hormuz to its usual operational state, and stop pushing oil prices
unnecessarily higher.

So today, Nikki is delving back into history to see what happened with EVs the
last time oil prices were severely affected by foreign war — and examining why
this brutal, bloody, and unnecessary conflict could yet end up promoting EV growth
from the ashes.

The Tesla Model Y is currently the world's best-selling electric car. It packs a decent amount of tech, convenient charging via Tesla's Supercharger network, and for many buyers, is their first foray into electric vehicles. And for that, it deserves real credit.

But as Elon Musk has become increasingly vocal about his political views, willingly platformed white extremist and xenophobic voices, and meddled in multiple countries' political processes, there's a growing number of people who would drive a Model Y were it not for his leadership position at the company.

Klappenkrug - Verschwundene Dörfer
Der Ursprung von Adlig Jarchow, wie das Dorf Klappenkrug anfangs hieß, liegt im Dunkel der Geschichte. In der 2. Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts taucht dann der Name Klappenkrug auf, eine klassische Umspannstation an der Poststraße mit Schmiede und Krug. Und mit Wegegeld-lizenz, woher auch der Name Klappe (Aufklappen der Schranke) kommt. 1855 hat das zum Gut Neuhof und zur Kirche Bibow gehörende Dorf stolze 27 Einwohner. Schmied Zinck ist 1861 unter den Ausstellern auf der Deutschen Land- und Forstwirtschaftsausstellung in Schwerin. Als er auf's Altenteil geht, übernimmt das junge Paar Heinrich und Henrike Vorwerk (im Bild) Schmiede und Krug. Durch den Chausseebau von Ventschow nach Liessow 1907 ist der Untergang des Klappenkruges quasi besiegelt. Im Frühjahr 1914 brennt der Schmiedekrug durch Blitzschlag ab und wird nicht wieder aufgebaut. Nur die alljährlich blühenden Obstbäume hielten die Erinnerung an diesen Ort wach.
