South Africa's President is facing the possibilty of impeachment, in a long running scandal known as Farmgate. It involves the dissapearance of over half a million dollars from Cyril Ramaposa's luxury farmhouse, which was stolen in a breakin in 2020. Ramaphosa is accused of serious violations and misconduct, and the Constitutional court has lifted an earlier ruling that blocked proceedings. He denies any wrongdoing.

Trump Says Russia, Ukraine Will Pause Fighting On May 9

In an online post, US President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a three-day cease-fire deal starting on May 9. The date coincides with Victory Day celebrations in Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there would be no attacks on the site of the celebrations.

United States to revoke passports of parents with child support debts

Parents who fail to pay child support will face significant penalties. The U.S. Department of State will begin revoking the passports of citizens with significant child support debts, as part of a policy the Trump administration introduced as an effort to strengthen enforcement of federal laws and compel those with overdue payments to catch up.

French couple on hantavirus cruise ship says ‘no panic onboard’

A French couple who is currently travelling on the MV Hondius, which was recently hit by a hantavirus outbreak, has issued a statement urging media not to “overdramatise” the situation, adding that there is “no panic” among the passengers onboard. "To call this an epidemic is wrong. To imply it's a pandemic is dishonest,” they said.
