Steve Hilton, the Trump-backed political commentator who is leading in the polls for governor of California

It’s no secret that the Republican vote continues to grow in the progressive state of California, and that boost has become visible in a tight race where the Republicans hope to reclaim the governorship, held by Democrats since 2011. Steve Hilton, a political commentator who enjoys the backing of U.S. President Donald Trump, has led or is in contention for the lead in several recent polls, a surprising scenario that would not only put the Democratic Party in a difficult position but also call into question the results and the momentum of outgoing Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been tipped as a contender for the White House.

El Chapo managed to communicate with his sons from US maximum-security prison

Not even the most secure U.S. prison could fully contain Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. His desire to send messages related to criminal activities to his sons, leaders of a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, ultimately overcame the strict restrictions imposed in his confinement in a Colorado maximum-security facility.

Fraudsters are fleecing Americans like never before

Scammers targeting U.S. victims have perfected their methods. They pretend to be relatives in distress, lawyers about to file lawsuits, salespeople with incredible offers, or feared immigration officers. They’ve gone so far as to open call centers, develop strategies, write scripts, hire English-speaking operators, and demand ever-increasing results from them. They also use artificial intelligence and have accomplices who collect and send money. Many have achieved their goals of defrauding people with almost business-like precision.

I’m a college student in the United States and I didn’t even know about it: Inside the ‘ghost student’ scam

Right now, there’s another Isaiah Alvarado wandering like a ghost through the halls of a public university in California. This fake doppelganger uses my information: name, Social Security number, date of birth. For three months, I’ve been trying to convince the bureaucrats at that school of a basic truth: that I am Isaiah Alvarado. I’m not alone in this strange and complex identity theft scheme. Around 1.2 million fraudulent applications to community colleges and universities across the state were detected in 2024. This is how sophisticated gangs of fraudsters, some operating from abroad, stole more than $11 million that year.

Swalwell’s resignation boosts Xavier Becerra in the run for California governor: ‘We have to control the president’s excesses’

In the last week, Xavier Becerra — who has a 35-year political career spanning Congress, the state Attorney General’s office, and the federal Secretary of Health and Human Services during the Biden presidency — has emerged as a strong contender in the tight race for governor of California. His campaign to replace Gavin Newsom, whose second term is ending and is ineligible for reelection, received an unexpected boost of several points after the frontrunner in the polls, Eric Swalwell, dropped out of the race and resigned his congressional seat amid serious allegations of sexual abuse.
