MALAYSIA/SINGAPORE: Malaysian police have arrested eight men after a raid at a luxury hotel near Kuala Lumpur (KL) Sentral, following the death of a 31-year-old Malaysian man who was brought to the hospital unconscious.
Early reports from local media said two Singaporeans were among those detained. However, Singaporeβs Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) later clarified to Channel NewsAsia (CNA) that, based on its understanding, only one of the eight arrested was Singaporean.
The arrests came after authorities received a report that a man had died shortly after arriving at Kuala Lumpur Hospital in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Malaysian media reports cited by CNA, police moved into the hotel room at about 4 am after gathering intelligence linked to suspected drug activity.
Brickfields district police chief Hoo Chang Hook said officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department carried out the operation at the room where the deceased had been staying.
Police detained eight men from different countries. Reports identified them as two Malaysians, one Singaporean, and individuals from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, and China.
Authorities also recovered a small amount of suspected ketamine and several pills believed to be ecstasy. All eight have been remanded for three days to assist investigations under Malaysiaβs Dangerous Drugs Act.
Police said the deceased had lost consciousness before being taken to the emergency department. Initial findings suggested that a friend had helped him out of the hotel room at about 3.10 am before he headed to the hospital.
A post-mortem has been completed, though laboratory results are still pending. For now, Malaysian police have classified the case as a sudden death. As of now, investigators havenβt publicly tied the death to any confirmed cause while waiting for medical findings.
A CNB spokesperson said Singapore is aware that a Singaporean was among those arrested in Malaysia over suspected drug-related offences. The agency added that it will support Malaysian authorities where needed and declined further comment while investigations continue.
Cross-border cases involving Singaporeans have legal systems and penalties that differ across countries. Cases like this also show how fast routine travel can become a matter for multiple agencies once criminal investigations begin.
For the time being, questions remain unanswered, including what led to the manβs death and whether charges will eventually follow. Early reports can also change as facts are checked and updated, identities confirmed, and investigations move forward.

China said Friday it was holding an American citizen accused of espionage, identifying the man as a political analyst at a policy think tank focusing on neighbouring Myanmar.
Min Zin β a founder of the Institute for Strategy and Policy Myanmar (ISP-M) β βhas been subjected to criminal compulsory measuresβ, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a news briefing.

Authorities are holding him βon suspicion of engaging in espionage activities that endanger Chinaβs national securityβ, he said, without providing further details.
The ISP-M researches the political, resource and conflict dynamics of Myanmar, which was plunged into civil war by a 2021 coup.
Some of their publications detail Chinaβs influence in the borderlands of Myanmar, where Beijing is accused of supporting armed factions which suit its national interests.
It is not clear whether Min Zin was conducting research at the time he was held by Chinese authorities.
A person with professional ties to ISP-M, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case, told AFP Min Zin was arrested on June 3 at Kunming airport in Yunnan province, which borders Myanmar.
βHe went there to attend a meeting,β said another person with a close relationship to the detained academic, who also spoke on condition of anonymity.
Chinese authorities said the US consulate in Guangzhou had been notified of the case.
βHis family and colleagues are following up with the consulate office there,β the second source said. βI know his family is worried.β
Neither the US State Department nor the ISP-M have responded to a request for comment.
The ISP-M is based in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai, a hub for political exiles from Myanmar since the coup ousted the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.
Analysts, including those at the ISP-M, say China has intermittently backed both the military and rebels in the civil war according to its varying economic and security interests.

Hong Kongβs consumer watchdog has urged claw machine operators to exercise greater transparency amid a surge in complaints over the past two years.
The Consumer Council said on Monday that the number of complaints related to claw machines had surged nearly nine times over two years, from 16 cases in 2023 to 138 in 2025.

βThe complaints revealed that some machines displayed or positioned prizes in a way that was prone to misunderstanding; machine settings and gameplay explanations were unclear; and prize quality varied significantly,β the watchdog said.
Citing a complaint, the watchdog said a customer successfully grabbed a box after attempting 40 times and spending around HK$200 β only to discover it was empty.
The shop owner refused to provide a refund, saying the box was displayed only for decorative purposes and was not a prize. After the customer complained to the council, the owner apologised to the complainant and fully refunded the HK$200.
At another shop, a player reported that the claw machine automatically dropped the toy when it reached the top of the machine, preventing it from being delivered to the prize chute. Suspecting that the company had rigged the machines, he lodged a complaint.
βThe Council urges claw machine operators to enhance transparency by clearly displaying, on the machine or in a conspicuous location, the charges, gameplay, mechanisms and winning conditions, as well as the contact details of the responsible person,β it said.

It also called on operators to avoid setting an excessive or unreasonable level of difficulty, βwhich could undermine consumer rights or create negative perceptions.β
The watchdog also advised customers to read the rules carefully and to carefully check the quality of prizes.
They should stop playing and contact staff members if they observe any abnormal settings, it added. If no employees are on site, customers can take videos of gameplay as evidence.
βWhether a prize can be clawed out is influenced not only by machine settings and prize placement, but also by skill and luck. Consumers should weigh expected expenditure against the value of the prize to avoid overβconsumption or addiction,β it added.
The councilβs statement comes as the government moves to regulate claw and pinball machines by implementing a licensing regime.
The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau said in a proposal to the Legislative Council last month that the low-maintenance business opportunity, which involves gambling elements or addiction risks, may need to be subject to restrictions to protect players.

SHAH ALAM, June 10 β The Selangor govt today launched the Selangor Persons with Disabilities Policy and Action Plan 2026-2030 to strengthen inclusion and support the holistic development of the stateβs approximately 150,000 registered persons with disabilities (PWDs).
State Women Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari said the comprehensive policy marked a significant shift from a passive welfare-based approach towards one centred on rights, active participation and empowerment.
βThis proactive step is intended to ensure that the PWD community is recognised as an equal strategic partner in the stateβs development.
βThe policy was formulated based on field studies involving PWDs, caregivers, non-governmental organisations, government agencies and academics,β she told reporters after launching the policy at Universiti Teknologi MARAβs Dewan Tuanku Canselor here.
Anfaal said the policy was designed to bridge the gap between policymaking and implementation through a structured framework guided by five key pillars: quality of life and social equity, education and lifelong learning, productivity and economic development, accessibility and universal design (UD), as well as governance and advocacy.
She said the policy, which is guided by the principles of maqasid syariah, also seeks to improve access to healthcare services, early intervention programmes, mental health support for PWDs and caregivers, economic participation, and inclusive worship facilities.
On accessibility, Anfaal acknowledged that making older developments fully PWD-friendly could be challenging, but said improvements could begin with new developments.
She said the state govt would also determine mandatory UD requirements to be incorporated into development planning and complied with by developers.
βThe action plan must serve as a genuine instrument of change and not merely remain a document on paper,β she said.
Anfaal said the state govt was committed to ensuring transparent implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the policy, with government agencies and stakeholders expected to play accountable roles.
As a follow-up measure, she said the Selangor Disability Action Council (MTOS) had begun advocacy and awareness workshops with local authority planners and engineers to improve compliance with existing guidelines.
Earlier, Anfaal, accompanied by MTOS chairman and Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron, presented RM90,000 in grants to three recipients under the Selangor Inclusive Innovation Programme (SIIP).
She also presented awards to PWD students who excelled in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, 2025 bachelorβs degree graduates and participants of the recent Global IT Challenge (GITC) in South Korea. β Bernama

The four-wheeler allegedly used in the assassination of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari, was brought from neighbouring Jharkhand, according to preliminary findings of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Sources said the revelation emerged during the interrogation of one of the three arrested accused, Mayank Raj Mishra, who allegedly confessed to transporting the vehicle from Jharkhand to Barasat in North 24-Parganas district shortly before the killing.
According to investigators, Mishra told the CBI that he had been hired by a Jharkhand-based individual to deliver the four-wheeler to Barasat, close to the crime scene at Madhyamgram.
He allegedly confessed to driving the vehicle from Jharkhand and later replacing its original number plate with a fake registration plate near an abandoned location close to the Barasat rail gate.
The fake number plate, sources said, corresponded to a vehicle registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Siliguri, Darjeeling district.
Investigators also learnt that Mishra was allegedly paid Rs 1 lakh for transporting the vehicle.
After delivering the car, he reportedly travelled to Howrah Station, boarded a train to Buxar, and was later arrested there.
Rath was gunned down on the night of 6 May, just two days after the West Bengal Assembly election results were declared.
The BJP won 207 seats in the assembly polls, reducing the ruling Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress to 80 seats.
According to the probe, Rath was returning home from a party programme when his vehicle was intercepted at a crossing in Madhyamgram by the four-wheeler allegedly brought from Jharkhand.
Investigators suspect that two motorcycles had been tailing Rathβs car for some time.
As Rathβs vehicle stopped after being blocked, one of the motorcycles pulled up beside it and the rider allegedly fired around 10 rounds at close range.
Rath died on the spot, while his driver, Buddhadeb Bera, sustained critical injuries. He is currently recovering.
Following the murder, Suvendu Adhikari claimed Rath was targeted because of his close association with him.
Adhikari had said Rath βwould not have been killedβ had he not been the aide of the leader who defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by over 15,000 votes.
The CBI is continuing its investigation into the conspiracy, logistics and possible political links behind the assassination.
