Ridley Scott’s Near-Perfect Sci-Fi Series Just Changed the Franchise’s Future

The membrane separating movies from TV has never been thinner, as one of Hollywood's biggest franchises suddenly has more prosects on the small screen than the cinema. FX has renewed Alien: Earth for a second season, which will begin filming later this year. By comparison, the studios behind the Alien franchise still haven't committed to their next movie project, with a sequel to Alien: Romulus in development, but nowhere near production as far as we know. Alien: Earth was a massive success for FX and Hulu, and it's clear the network wants to keep up the momentum. This could be good news for the franchise overall, but an increased investment in TV could mean fewer xenomorphs on the big screen in the years to come.

β€˜Game of Thrones’ Next Big Prequel Has One Colossal Problem

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a certified hit, and House of the Dragon is flying off to war later this month, but the next title planned in HBO's Game of Thrones franchise has a major problem. That production is known as Aegon's Conquest, and if its problem has a singular name, it's Balerion the Black Dread. Last we heard, Aegon's Conquest is the working title for a spin-off movie in development, which would be about how and why House Targaryen took over Westeros in the first place. However, based on George R.R. Martin's writing so far, this story is massive in scale and is not ideally suited for a movie or TV adaptation.

'The Simpsons' Is Officially Making Its Biggest TV Change Yet

The Simpsons has been a pillar of the TV industry for over three decades, and now the changing tides of the streaming era are finally beginning to reshape it. The Simpsons are a major selling point for Disney+, as it's the only subscription-based service where fans can binge and re-watch the iconic series. In turn, this instant availability helped restore The Simpsons' place in the public consciousness to some extent, earning the series a massive four-season renewal last year. Now, each season includes a few "Disney+ specials," which are only available on the streamer and never air on Fox. It's the clearest sign of the traditional broadcast model's decline β€” at least when it comes to entertainment.
