GENEVA, May โ€Œ9 โ€” The head of the World Health Organisation โ€Œarrived in Spain today where he will join senior government officials in Tenerife to oversee the safe disembarkation of passengers on board โ€Œthe cruise ship โ where an outbreak โ of โ Hantavirus started.

WHO Director โ General, โ Tedros Adhanom Ghebrey said on X โ that he was in contact with the shipโ€™s captain and a WHO colleague who โ is on board who said that, at โ this stage, there are โ no additional โ people on board showing symptoms of โ€ŒHantavirus. โ€” Reuters

GENEVA, May 9 โ€” There are six confirmed cases of hantavirus so far out of eight suspected ones following an outbreak on a cruise ship, the World Health Organization said today.ย 

โ€œAs of 8 May, a total of eight cases, including three deaths (case fatality ratio 38 per cent), have been reported. Six cases have been laboratory-confirmed as hantavirus infections, with all identified as Andes virus (ANDV),โ€ it said in a statement.

โ€œWHO assesses the risk to the global population posed by this event as low and will continue to monitor the epidemiological situation and update the risk assessmentโ€.
