Negeri Sembilan drama settles: Zahid confirms 14 Umnoโ€‘BN assemblymen staying with Unity pact

Malay Mail

PUTRAJAYA, April 30 โ€” All 14 assemblymen from Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Negeri Sembilan have agreed to continue supporting the state Unity Government to ensure political stability, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president said the decision was reached following a discussion session held with all the representatives involved today.

โ€œThe move taken by all the assemblymen was initially driven by good intentions to ensure that the royal institution and customs in Negeri Sembilan continue to be respected and upheld by all, especially Umno and BN representatives,โ€ he said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said this after officiating and witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony between MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd and its strategic partners.

He said the party at the national level respects the views of the assemblymen, but all of them have ultimately agreed to continue supporting the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan to avoid any disruption, in the interest of the people.

In addition, Ahmad Zahid, who is also BN chairman, said that as the country is currently facing global economic challenges, all parties must remain united in supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahimโ€™s efforts to ensure political stability.

โ€œWhat the Prime Minister aspires to achieve is political stability so that we can collectively face what is described as this global crisis, for the benefit of the people as a whole,โ€ he said.

When asked whether the move by the assemblymen was aimed at replacing the Menteri Besar, Ahmad Zahid said any disputes should be resolved through discussions.

โ€œBN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have an 18-point agreement. One of its key elements is that if there are any disputes or issues, we must return to the negotiating table to reach a resolution,โ€ he said. โ€” Bernama

Anthony Loke says Zahid rejects backdoor bid, insists Negeri Sembilan Unity Government remains intact and stable

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 โ€” DAP secretaryโ€‘general Anthony Loke has said Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi does not support the formation of a new government or a โ€œbackdoor administrationโ€ in Negeri Sembilan.

As reported by Berita Harian (BH), Loke, who is also Transport Minister, said Zahid conveyed the position in his capacity as deputy prime minister during yesterdayโ€™s Cabinet meeting, following the move by 14 Umno assemblymen to withdraw support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He stressed that the state government led by Aminuddin continues to function as usual.

โ€œYesterday, the Umno political bureau also issued a statement that although 14 assemblymen were said to have lost confidence in the menteri besar, they still support the Unity Government.

โ€œWith Zahid himself stating the same stance in Cabinet, it means the Umno president does not agree with forming a new government or a backdoor administration.

โ€œThis means the existing government remains the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan, ensuring stability and continuity in the stateโ€™s administration. I believe this clarification will help ease the situation,โ€ Loke told BH today.

On the ongoing dispute involving customary institutions and the state constitution, Loke said the matter must be resolved internally.

โ€œWe cannot intervene. At the government level, our priority is to ensure the administration continues as usual. The menteri besar, the executive council and the assemblymen are functioning and working as normal. I believe this will guarantee stability,โ€ he was quoted as saying.

Pakatan condemns โ€˜betrayalโ€™ by 14 Negeri Sembilan Umno lawmakers

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR April 28 Pakatan Harapan (PH) has strongly condemned the actions of 14 Umno state assemblymen from the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition in Negeri Sembilan, accusing them of betraying the spirit of the Unity Government and attempting to destabilise the state administration.

In a strongly-worded media statement issued today, PH Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil expressed the coalitionโ€™s deep regret over what he described as a treacherous move that disregards the welfare of the people.

PH rejected what it termed as the โ€œbetrayalโ€ by the 14 UMNO-BN lawmakers who allegedly attempted to โ€œtopple the roofโ€ and seize control of the Negeri Sembilan state government administration.

โ€œThe reasons given by the 14 assemblymen are completely unrelated to the Menteri Besarโ€™s performance,โ€ the statement read.

The opposition coalition argued that Umno-BNโ€™s actions were carried out without considering the peopleโ€™s welfare, particularly at a time when the Unity Government and the nation are grappling with a global supply crisis while working to manage the economy and reduce the burden on the rakyat (people).

Despite the political manoeuvring, PH reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stability in the state. The coalition stated that, as conveyed by PH Chairman to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar (Ruler) of Negeri Sembilan, the state government administration under the leadership of the Menteri Besar will continue to operate as usual.

โ€œPakatan Harapan will continue to extend cooperation to the state government leadership for the sake of the stateโ€™s economic stability and the peopleโ€™s welfare,โ€ the statement emphasised.

The statement also underscored PHโ€™s continued commitment to defending the role and functions of the Malay Rulers institution, signaling that the coalition views this latest political development as not merely a partisan issue but one with broader constitutional implications.
