Hamas committed 'systematic' sexual violence during October 7 attacks, says report

Hamas and allied Palestinian militant groups committed "systematic, widespread" sexual violence during the October 7th 2023 attack on Israel and against hostages held captive in Gaza. That's according to a report by an independent Israeli investigative commission released on May 12. The report builds on prior investigations, including by the UN, to determine the full scale of sexual violence perpetrated.

France puts strong protocol in place to fight hantavirus

The French government has put in place a strong protocol as it races to break transmission of the hantavirus, as five passengers from the infected cruiseship were repatriated. The French Health ​Minister Stephanie Rist said ​on May 12 some things about the hantavirus that struck ​the ‌MV Hondius ⁠cruise ship were not ‌known, including whether it has mutated, ⁠although officials were "rather reassured." Israel passes law establishing military tribunal for October 7 perpetrators

Israel's parliament has passed a law to set up a special military tribunal to try hundreds of Palestinians accused of taking part in the October 7 2023 attack, under which the death penalty could be handed down. Lawmakers said the step would help heal national trauma, though some rights groups have criticised the measure, warning it does away with procedures safeguarding the right to a fair trial.
